The Data Management Laboratory (PKUMOD) at the Wangxuan Institute of Computer Technology, Peking University, led by Professor Lei Zou, is currently offering internship opportunities for students interested in data management, artificial intelligence, and advanced systems research. The lab has long been dedicated to research in databases, large language models, and knowledge graphs, and has achieved substantial outcome at top-tier international conferences and journals such as SIGMOD, VLDB, and ACL. It has received multiple academic awards, including a VLDB Best Paper Nomination. In the coming spring, the lab will also welcome a new Assistant Professor, bringing additional energy and momentum to the team.

Current active research directions include graph-based retrieval-augmented generation (graph RAG), multi-agent memory management, database systems for large-model applications, the integration of time-series data with large language models, and graph intelligence. These topics combine strong academic value with significant industrial potential, making them highly suitable for students aspiring to engage in cutting-edge research.

The laboratory maintains a collaborative and supportive atmosphere, with close cooperation among members. Team dinner and team building activities are regularly organized. In addition to academic exploration of frontier topics, the lab maintains extensive industry collaborations. Therefore, it is well-suited both for students aiming for academic careers and for those seeking hands-on project development and engineering experience.

Since 2017, more than five PhD graduates from the lab have joined Project 985  universities as faculty members. Several graduates have received prestigious industry offers, including Huawei’s “Top Minds” Program, Alibaba’s “Bravo Star” Program, and Tencent’s “Top Talent” programs. One PhD graduate received the CCF Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. Multiple undergraduate interns have published top-tier conference papers, including at SIGMOD, during their internship period. Internship experience at the lab has also strongly supported further academic pursuits, with several students successfully admitted to leading international institutions such as the University of Edinburgh, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Toronto.

We welcome undergraduate students who are interested in Data-Centric AI and data systems to apply. Applicants are expected to have solid programming skills (C++ or Python), strong research motivation, and good teamwork abilities.
